Prayer—may they be shut |
|
May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because
that my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite! O Lord, wilt thou not
shut the gates of thy righteousness before me, that I may walk in the
path of the low valley, that I may be strict in the plain road!

2 Ne. 4:32 |
Shall not prevail |
|
Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is
my doctrine, and whoso buildeth upon this buildeth upon my
rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them. |
|
3 Ne. 11:39 |
Receive those who preach false
doctrine |
|
And whoso shall declare more or less
than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and
is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation,
and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and
the winds beat upon them. |
|
3 Ne. 11:40 |
Receive those who do more or
less |
|
But whoso among you shall do more or
less than these are not built upon my rock, but are built upon a sandy
foundation; and when the rain descends, and the floods come, and the winds
blow, and beat upon them, they shall fall, and the gates of hell
are ready open to receive them.

Enduring members overcome |
|
And now, behold, whosoever is of my church,
and endureth of my church to the end, him will I establish upon my rock,
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them. |

¶ D&C
10:69 |
Commandment-keepers prevail |
|
And if you do these last commandments of mine,
which I have given you, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you;
for my grace is sufficient for you, and you shall be lifted up at the
last day. |
|
¶ D&C
17:8 |
Build on
church/gospel to prevail |
|
Wherefore, if you shall build up my church,
upon the foundation of my gospel and my rock, the gates of hell
shall not prevail against you.

Church obey Joseph's words |
4 |
Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto
all his words, and commandments, which he shall give unto you, as he receiveth
them, walking in all holiness before me: |
|
¶ D&C 21:4–6 |
As from me—patiently, with faith |
5 |
For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth,
in all patience and faith; |
|
|
Then gates won't prevail |
6 |
For by doing these things the gates of
hell shall not prevail against you; yea, and the Lord God will disperse
the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to
shake for your good, and his name’s eglory.

Gospel/faith |

Behold, verily, verily I say unto you, this is my gospel,
and remember that they shall have faith in me or they can in nowise be
saved: |

¶ D&C 33:12–13 |
The rock |

And upon this rock I will build my church;
yea, upon this rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of
hell shall not prevail against you. |

And again I say unto you, if ye observe to do whatsoever
I command you, I, the Lord, will turn away all wrath and indignation
from you, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.

Priesthood power |
9 |
It may seem to some to be a very bold doctrine that we talk
of—a power which records or binds on earth and binds in heaven. Nevertheless,
in all ages of the world, whenever the Lord has given a dispensation of
the priesthood to any man by actual revelation, or any set of men, this
power has always been given. Hence, whatsoever those men did in authority,
in the name of the Lord, and did it truly and faithfully, and kept a proper
and faithful record of the same, it became a law on earth and in heaven,
and could not be annulled, according to the decrees of the great Jehovah.
This is a faithful saying. Who can hear it?

D&C 128:9–11 |
Sealing power |
10 |
And again, for the precedent, Matthew 16:18, 19: And I say
also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build
my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will
give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose
on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Power |
11 |
Now the great and grand secret of the whole matter, and
the summum bonum of the whole subject that is lying before us, consists
in obtaining the powers of the Holy Priesthood. For him to whom these
keys are given there is no difficulty in obtaining a knowledge of facts
in relation to the salvation of the children of men, both as well for
the dead as for the living. |
