The first Kirtland conference since
early June. Two elders are silenced and one priest returns his license.
All three had attended the conference where the High Priesthood was administered
and the "man of sin" revealed (Minutes
of June 3, 1831). Though Ezra Booth reports
that none of the brethren left the church as a result of the June conference
(¶ Ezra Booth Letters (2)), I
wonder about these three. Two of the three are not mentioned again in church
records, and William Carter returns only
briefly. Coincidentally, Ezra arrives back in Kirtland from Independence
on the day this conference is held, but apparently did not attend. ¶

ran the church store, but it was an ecclesiastical position. |
Two
elders silenced |
|
After hearing unspecified testimony,
the conference votes "that our brethren Edson
Fuller & William
Carter be silenced from holding the office of Elders in this Church." |
|
On
June [6], 1831, William Carter was called on a mission with Wheeler Baldwin
(¶ D&C 52:31). It is likely
that neither Edson nor William went, but there is no clear evidence
that this was the cause for their being silenced. |
Priest
returns license |
|
By request of br. Lorin Page the
Conference received his license as a Priest. |
|
Lorin Page (1813?),
of Waterville, New York, attended the June 3–6, 1831 conference
as a priest. He is the brother of John E.
Page.
