Conference of May 26, 1832

In the fall of 1830, Oliver Cowdery proposed to a young woman while engaged to Elizabeth Ann Whitmer. In 1831 he confessed to those involved but apparently the high priests felt they should get involved. Oliver acknowledges his error and is forgiven. ¶ Ezra Booth Letter 9 (December 1831) claimed the episode demonstrated Oliver's lack of character.

Oliver's transgression   Purpose is to consider "a certain transgression of our br. Oliver committed in the fall of 1830" in Mayfield township, Cuyahoga county, Ohio.    
    After "some discussion," Oliver "having frankly confessed … to the satisfaction of all present" the conference resolved that the proceedings be recorded.

The reason why the above case was not taken into consideration by proper authority in the Church previous this day, is that some of the Elders supposed that the affair had been adjusted last year when brother Oliver made his confession to the individuals injured & received their forgiveness.
