Early convert, mission to the Lamanites with Oliver Cowdery, Peter Whitmer, Jr., and Parley P. Pratt, 1830–1831. Sheriff of Hangtown, California.

Born Ziba Peterson, birth date unknown. Also known as Richard Ziba Peterson.
Died Between January and June 1849 in Placerville, Eldorado county, California.  
Baptized April 18, 1830 by Oliver Cowdery.  
Ordinations Elder, before June 9, 1830. Listed as an elder in the Conference of June 9, 1830.
Reordained elder October 2, 1832 by Lyman Wight. Far West Record, 56.
Missions Appointed to accompany Oliver Cowdery, Peter Whitmer, Jr., and Parley P. Pratt on the Lamanite Mission to Missouri about October 17, 1830. Arrived in Kirtland October 29, baptized several. D&C 31; Joseph Smith Revelations, 92n91.
Arrived in Independence, Missouri, December 13, 1830, and immediately found employment. Joseph Smith Revelations, 92n91 dates their arrival in January 1831.
Accompanied Peter Whitmer to preach to Indians across Missouri River, April 8, 1831.
Accompanied Oliver Cowdery to preach to residents of Lafayette county, Missouri, April 1831.
Events Chastened August 1, 1831. "Let that which has been bestowed upon Ziba Peterson be taken from him; and let him stand as a member in the church, and labor with his own hands, with the brethren until he is sufficiently chastened for all his sins; for he confesseth them not, and he thinketh to hide them." ¶ Ezra Booth Letters (7)
