Tabernacle Organ and Choir |
The world renowned tabernacle organ is located in the west end of the building. It was originally built by home talent and chiefly of native woods. In 1915 the Organ was entirely overhauled and enlarged, making it 60 ft. wide, 33 for the deep and 48 for the high. It contains about eight thousand pipes and 270 stops. The action of the organ is electric throughout. The wind pressure by which the pipes are blown is furnished by fans which [are] rotated by four motors creating thirty two horse power. It is believed that this instrument has now attained a perfection which can hardly be reproduced for many years to come. Free recitals are given daily throughout the year. The seats surrounding the Organ are for the choir of four hundred (unpaid) singers. |
