Minutes of May 13, 1838

High council of Far West resolves to meet on the last Thursday of each month; Sidney to edit letters to the Elders' Journal, set aside 80 acres each for Joseph and Sidney; recommend church funds be consecrated to the poor; Elias Higbee, Simeon Carter, and George W. Harris to talk with Joseph and Sidney about their wages in the printing office and salaries for the coming year; committee to instruct bishop to pay whatever sum is agreed upon for Joseph and Sidney.

Spelling of names has been standardized.

Resolutions

Meet on last Thursdays
  Council to meet on the last Thursday of each month beginning on the last Thursday of June.    
Sidney edit Elders Journal letters   Sidney to edit the "Orthography and Prosody" of letters to the editor for the Elders Journal.    
Bishop to give Sidney and Joseph 80 acres each   Authorize bishop to "set apart eighty acres of land for the benefit of Sidney Rigdon and also, 80 acres for Joseph Smith jr."    
Urge Church to consecrate property   "That the High Council use their influence to have the Church consecrate their properties for the benefit of the poor."    
Committee to meet with Joseph and Sidney about their wages   Appoint Elias Higbee, Simeon Carter, and George W. Harris as a committee to meet with Joseph and Sidney about their "price or wages for their services in the printing office & their saleries for the coming year."    
Instruct the bishop to pay First Presidency   That the Committee be authorized to instruct the Bishop to pay the First Presidency, Joseph Smith, & Sidney Rigdon, whatever sum they agree with them for.   ¶ Joseph's Finances: 1838
