Description |
the second Conference
held by the Elders of this Church. |
Leader |
Br. Joseph Smith jr.
appointed leader of the Conference by vote. |
"And all things shall be
done by common consent in the church, by much prayer and faith, for all
things you shall receive by faith." ¶ D&C
26:2, (June 1830).
Joseph does not preside by virtue of being the "First Elder" but by being elected to preside. This was consistent with the common practice of the time to elect a "moderator" at each meeting. (The term is also used occasionally in Mormon minutes.) Typically, Joseph was "elected" or "appointed" to preside except at church courts in which he was a plaintiff, defendant, or witness. |
