Salt Lake City is beautifully
located, nestling in the Wasatch Mountains, and to the west and northwest
lies the Great Salt Lake, and beyond the Oquirrh Mountains. It has a population
of about one hundred fifty thousand. Its altitude is 4,300 for the above
sea level. It has sixty miles of water mains, twenty-two miles of sewers,
seventy miles [of] Electric Street Railway, three fine hospitals, a splendid
public school system and churches of nearly every denomination. The city
was originally settled by the Mormons under Brigham Young, in July, 1847. |
