Kirtland March 1st 1832 | Revelation given March, 1832. The order given of the Lord to Enoch, for the purpose of establishing the poor. | Revelation through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Hiram, Ohio, March 1832. The order given of the Lord to Joseph Smith for the purpose of establishing a storehouse for the poor. HC 1:225257. It was not always desirable that the identity of the individuals whom the Lord addressed in the revelations should be known by the world; hence, in the publication of this and some subsequent revelations the brethren were referred to by other than their own names. When the necessity had passed for keeping the names of the individuals unknown, their real names were thereafter given in brackets. Since there exists no vital need today to continue the code names, the real names only are now used herein, as given in the original manuscripts. |
The Newel K. Whitney text below is adapted from Revelations of Joseph Smith, 195198. Paragraphing corresponds to modern versification.
Whitney version: The Lord announces to the brethren of the High Priesthood
that it is time to merge the Literary and Mercantile Firms of Kirtland and Zion
§. (This is later known as the United Firm, or the
United Order.) It will be an everlasting firm to promote the interests of the
church, so that all will be equal in heavenly and earthly things to prepare
you for the celestial kingdom. Newel, Joseph, and Sidney are to consult with
the brethren in Zion so Satan won't mislead them about it §.
Covenant with each other §. Whoever breaks the covenant
will lose his standing in the church and be turned over to Satan until the day
of redemption. The riches of eternity and a hundred times the wealth of this
world are promised §. Jesus will come with the church
of the firstborn § and take you up in the cloud and reward
all according to their deserts.
Changes in the 1835 version: The Lord tells Enoch what to say. The people are
to be organized regarding the Lord's storehouse for the poor. (The Literary
and Mercantile Firms are not mentioned.) Kirtland and Zion are the city of Enoch,
which will be a permanent establishment. The Holy One of Zion has established
Adam-ondi-Ahman and appointed Michael, their prince, elevated him to a high
station, given him the keys of salvation under the direction of the Holy One
who is without beginning of days or end of life. The Redeemer is referred to
as the Son Ahman. This church is the church of the first born.
Subsequent changes: The only significant change is the omission of reference
to the city of Enoch. Thus, one of the principal subjects of the revelation,
the United Firm, gives way to the Lord's storehouse for the city of Enoch, then
to the Lord's storehouse wherever it is.

and listen to the councel of him who has ordained you from on high who shall speak in your ears the words of wisdom that salvation may be with you in that thing which you have presented before me saith the Lord God | may be unto you | 2

by doing the things which I have commanded & required of you |
7 | |||
& now verily thus saith the Lord it is expedient that all things be done unto my glory that ye should who are joined together in this firm |
2 | together in this order; | 8 |
by you who are joined together in this order; |
or in other words that my Servant Newel and my servant Joseph and my servant Sidney sit in councel with the saints who are in zion | my servant Ahasdah
and my servant Gazelam, or Enoch, and my servant
Pelagoram,

providence,
upon you, that the church may stand |
14 | ||
that you may come up unto the crown prepared for you, and be made rulers over many kingdoms saith the Lord God the holy one of Israel | that you may come up
unto the crown prepared for you, and be made rulers over many kingdoms,
saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Zion, who hath
established the foundations of Adam-ondi-Ahman: |
15 | ||
who
hath appointed Michael, your prince, and established his feet, and set him
upon high; and given unto him the keys of salvation under the counsel and
direction of the Holy One, who is without beginning of days or end of life. |
16 | |||
Verily Verily I say unto you, ye are little children and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the father has put into his own hands and prepared for you | 4 | the Father has in his own hands, | 17
and ye cannot bear all things now nevertheless be of good cheer for I will lead you a long the Kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours and the riches of Eternity ar yours | 18
& he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious in the things of this world even an hundred fold yea more | glorious, and

Son Ahman,
before he taketh you: |
20 | ||
and then he will come even with the church of the first born & receive you in the cloud and appoint evry man his portion | for
