Doctrine and Covenants 21
April 6, 1830, Fayette, New York.

A record to be kept. Joseph a seer, translator, prophet, apostle, and elder. Church to give heed to him and receive his word "as if from mine own mouth" §. Oliver to ordain him first elder to Oliver §. Oliver an elder and "first preacher."

In BCR (1831) and EMS (1833) give the revelation in Fayette, while EMS (1834) BC given Manchester. See Accounts of April 6, 1830.

    A Revelation to Joseph the Seer by way of commandment to the Church given at Fayette Seneca County State of New York   A Revelation to Joseph, given in Manchester, New-York, April 6, 1830.

Seer, translator, prophet, apostle, elder
1 Behold there Shall <be> a Record be kept among you & in it thou shalt be called a seer & <a> Translater & <A> a Prop[h]et an Apostle of Jeses Christ an Elder of the Church through the will of God the Father & the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ   [1] BEHOLD, there shall be a record kept among you, and in it thou shalt be called a seer, a translator, a prophet, an apostle of Jesus Christ, an elder of the church through the will of God the Father, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, 1835 D&C 46 verse numbers are to the right of the text.
Inspired to found church 2 being inspired of the Holy Ghost to lay the foundation thereof & to build it up unto the most holy faith   [2] Being inspired of the Holy Ghost to lay the foundation thereof, and to build it up unto the most holy faith;    
April 6, 1830 3 which Church was Organized & established in the year of your Lord one thousand Eight Hundred & Thirty in the forth Month on the Sixth day of the month which is called April   [3] Which church was organized and established, in the year of your Lord eighteen hundred and thirty, in the fourth month, and on the sixth day of the month which is called April.    
Church to heed his words 4 Wherefore meaning the Church thou shalt give heed unto all his words & commandments which he s<S>hall give unto you as he receiveth them wa[l]king in all holyness before me   [4] Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words, and commandments, which he shall give unto you, as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me:    
As if from my own mouth 5 for his word ye shall receive as if from mine own mouth in all Patience & faith   [5] For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith;    
Then God will protect 6 for by doing these things the gaites of Hell shall not prevail against you   [6] For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you:    
Scatter darkness before you   yea & the Lord God will disperse the Powers of darkness from before you & cause the Heavens to shake for your Good & his names glory   [7] Yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you; and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his name's glory.    
I have heard his prayers 7 for thus saith the Lord God him have I inspired to move the cause of Zion in Mighty power for good & his dilligence I know & his prayers I have heard   [8] For thus saith the Lord God, him have I inspired to move the cause of Zion in mighty power for good; and his diligence I know, and his prayers I have heard:

Days of rejoicing are come
8 yea his weeping for Zion I have seen & I will cause that [29] He shall mourn for her no longer for his days of rejoicing are come unto the remission of his Sins & the manifestations of my blessings upon his works   [9] Yea, his weeping for Zion I have seen, and I will cause that he shall mourn for her no longer, for his days of rejoicing are come unto the remission of his sins, and the manifestations of my blessings upon his works.    
Lord blesses workers 9 for behold I will bless all those who Labour in my Vinyard with a mighty blessing & they shall believe on his words which are given him of <me> through me by <me by> the comforter   [10] For behold, I will bless all those who labor in my vineyard, with a mighty blessing, and they shall believe on his words, which are given him through me by the Comforter:    
Jesus crucified by wicked   which manifesteth that Jesus was Crusified by the Sins of the world <Sinful men> for <for the Sins of the> world   [11] Which manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by sinful men for the sins of the world;    
Remission for the contrite   for the remisions of sins unto the contrite heart   [12] Yea, for the remission of sins unto the contrite heart.    
Oliver to ordain Joseph 10 Wherefore it behooveth me that he should be ordained by you Oliver mine Apostle   [13] Wherefore, it behooveth me, that he should be ordained by you, Oliver Cowdery mine apostle;   Apostles
Joseph first elder 11 this being an Ordinance unto you that ye <you> are an elder under his hand <he being the first> unto you that thou mightest be an Elder unto this Church of Christ bearing my name   [14] This being an ordinance unto you, that you are an elder under his hand, he being the first unto you, that you might be an elder unto this church of Christ, bearing my name;    
First preacher to church, Gentiles 12 & the first Preacher of this Church unto the Church & before the world yea before the gentiles   [15] And the first preacher of this church, unto the church, and before the world; yea, before the Gentiles;    
and Jews   yea before & thus saith the Lord God Lo. Lo. to the Jews also Amen—   [16] Yea, and thus saith the Lord God, lo, lo, to the Jews also. Amen.
