Bishop's counselor   July 1833 Joseph Smith calls Hezekiah to be second counselor to newly called Bishop John Corrill.   Times and Seasons, vol. 6 no. 3 (February 15, 1845): 800.
Letter reprimanding leaders   August 31, 1835 Joseph writes a letter for Hezekiah to read publicize among the brethren in Clay county. It is signed by all presidents of the church except David Whitmer (Joseph, Oliver, Sidney, Frederick, W. W. Phelps, and John Whitmer). The presidents declare:    
    that the Lord has manifested by revelation of his spirit: that … all the officers in the land of Clay Co. Mo. … are more or less in transgression, because they have not enjoyed the spirit of God [346] sufficiently to be able to comprehend their duties … Now we say there is no need of ordaining in Zion … [347] … it is wisdom that the church should make but little or no stir in that region, and cause as little excitement as possible and endure their affliction patiently … keep silence: rail not against the sects, neither talk against their tenets. But preach Christ and him crucified, love to God and love to man, observing [348] always to make mention of our republican principles, thereby if possible, we may allay the prejudice of the people …   JS personal, 345–348.
